Source policy v0
Grounded events, cautious summaries, direct imagery handoff.
TerraNews Map indexes location-bearing event signals and routes each one to a commercial-imagery Explore AOI. The first version favors official geospatial feeds, explicit confidence labels, source links, and reviewer visibility over broad article scraping.
What Publishes
Confirmed feed events can publish automatically when they include coordinates, a stable source URL, and a category that supports imagery monitoring. Manual news-led events require a reviewer to set confidence, coordinate precision, sensitivity, and attribution.
What Does Not
The app does not copy full articles, infer casualty details, or treat fallback monitor records as confirmed events. Sensitive events are generalized and sent through the report workflow when location or summary quality is uncertain.
Imagery Handoff
SkyFi links are prefilled Explore URLs generated from the event AOI polygon. They are not an order guarantee; the user still confirms availability, capture options, pricing, and tasking rules in SkyFi.

Source Rules
| Source | Coverage | Allowed Use | Review Rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System, GDACSofficialreliability 92 | Global disaster alerts and hazardsdisaster, earthquake, environment, volcano, weather, wildfire | attribution-requiredevent type, alert level, country, dates, geometry, source link | Auto-publish allowedshort summaries allowedUse GDACS metadata and links for event facts. Do not reproduce long alert text; summarize sparse metadata and link back to the original report. |
| USGS Earthquake Hazards Programofficialreliability 96 | Global seismic eventsearthquake | public-domainmagnitude, place, time, updated time, coordinates, event URL | Auto-publish allowedshort summaries allowedCoordinates, magnitude, and timestamps are official feed values. The app labels earthquake locations as exact only for feed-provided epicenter coordinates. |
| USGS Volcano Hazards Program monitoring noticesofficialreliability 96 | Volcanoes monitored by United States volcano observatoriesvolcano | public-domainvolcano number, volcano name, observatory, volcano alert level, aviation color code, notice issue time, notice URL | Review requiredsummary reuse blockedEnrichment only: preserve source-native alert and aviation codes independently. A monitored-volcano row does not create or confirm a TerraNews event. |
| NASA Earth Observatory Natural Event Tracker, EONETofficialreliability 90 | Global natural eventsenvironment, volcano, weather, wildfire | open-dataevent title, category, geometry, status, dates, source link | Auto-publish allowedshort summaries allowedUse for active natural events with imagery relevance. Geometry may represent a changing hazard footprint, so location confidence is usually high rather than exact. |
| CAL FIRE Current Emergency Incidentsofficialreliability 94 | California emergency incidents, including active wildfires of 10 acres or greaterwildfire, disaster | attribution-requiredincident name, incident type, county, location, coordinates, started time, updated time, acreage, containment, administrative unit, incident URL | Auto-publish allowedshort summaries allowedUse CAL FIRE as the official source for California wildfire incident metadata. Display attribution and retain public-safety disclaimers because updates are incident-command approved and not guaranteed on a strict schedule. |
| Copernicus EMS Rapid Mappingofficialreliability 93 | Global public emergency mapping activationsdisaster, earthquake, environment, infrastructure, volcano, weather, wildfire | attribution-requiredactivation code, activation name, category, countries, event time, activation time, centroid, product counts, activation status | Auto-publish allowedshort summaries allowedUse activation metadata and centroid coordinates for event triage. Product geometries may provide better AOIs later, so centroid-based commercial-imagery links should be validated before ordering. |
| The GDELT Project Event Databaseopen-datareliability 68 | Global machine-coded news eventsconflict | open-dataevent code, action location, coordinates, country code, date added, mention counts, source URL | Review requiredshort summaries allowedGDELT records are automated news-derived signals, not official confirmation. Publish as likely/developing, keep sensitive flags on, and prefer city/landmark-level action coordinates over country centroids. |
